The majority of Niger is covered by Sahara Desert and most people in Niger have limited access to water and thus, water is life. The lack of clean drinking water is one of the largest social issues in Africa. Clean Water provides an avenue for agriculture, aids in preventing disease and sickness, nourishes our bodies, etc. By drilling water wells, Hosanna is able to provide clean drinking water to the most vulnerable people, helping to end preventable deaths from waterborne disease, dehydration, and more.
Long term issues that are created by a lack of clean water can be seen in girls dropping out of school due to the time it takes them to walk to draw clean water for their family and take it back home. Increased health issues leading to high infant mortality and life long health issues, the use of one water source for washing drinking, bathing, etc.
